Classic One Bowl French Toast
Golden French toast in one bowl - the breakfast that turns stale bread into something magnificent.
French toast is the ultimate rescue mission for bread that has seen better days. Day-old or slightly stale bread is actually better here than fresh - it absorbs the egg custard without falling apart in the pan. The custard is just eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla. The ratio matters: too much milk and it is wet and eggy, too little and the bread barely absorbs it. Thick-cut brioche or challah is the dream, but regular sandwich bread works perfectly fine. Cook it over medium heat - too high and the outside burns before the inside sets, which sounds like a metaphor for something.
